Archive for September, 2011

Okay, just to clear things out, I really have no issue with my weight. Okay! okay! okay! okay! okay! I admit I have some issues too but it’s more of keeping myself healthy and not really how big I look. The world has indeed changed and yes, slim and chiseled is what’s in and that’s why most people spend thousands of pesos on gyms, beauty and aesthetics center just to be in but who cares? I don’t!

Often when I see people who I have not seen for quite some time and when they comment that I packed some pounds I just smile and say thank you. I believe that it’s a choice I decided especially when stressful times at work comes and wherein food is my only way out.

I know that for health’s sake too, I have to be in shape too and just follow what the Nutritionist says and so I hope this day marks my commitment to abide by the suggestions of my nutritionist so by next month’s weight check, she would at least smile. After all, I think 2 kilos to lose is not that hard at all?! Right?! Oh please tell me yes. So, I start this week with determination and hopefully will not waver until I achieve what the nutritionist says as my ideal BMI which I think is too far from reality. Madre mio!

Wish me luck everyone! πŸ™‚

It’s almost a week now since the Miss Universe 2011 at Sao Paolo, Brazil was concluded with Miss Angola Leila Lopes crowned as the universe’s most beautiful woman while Philippines’ representative, Shamcey Supsup was trailing behind as the 3rd runner up in the prestigious competition where millions of people tuned in to watch last September 12, 2011 (September 13, Philippine time).

The competition most people say was a bit tough this year since the ladies were competitive and were absolutely gorgeous but our faith with the Philippines’ contestant has reaped as joy seeing Shamcey move from Top 16, Top 10 and of course the Magic 5. Shamcey has consistently ranked the top or if not the 2nd spot during the competition until the final 5 came to the last hurdle of the competition which is the Question and Answer Portion. Supsup’s question came from actress Vivica A. Fox who asked her if she would change her religion for someone she loves.

Supsup answer did not come as a surprise to me. For one, we are Filipinos and yes no matter what religion we are it is has always been a lingering issue for us marrying somebody who has different beliefs or religion. And second, I just learned from news also was a Christian. Many people have said that that her answer could have cost her the crown wherein she just placed 3rd runner up after all the good standings she had in the preliminaries.

How did she answer it?

“If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too.” — Shamcey Supsup

For me, this might not be preferred answer the judges wanted from her but I believe she just stood for what she believed in and what she believed in. When it comes to religion and even to beliefs and more so faith, I believe that there is no safe side, no gray area. It’s either black or white, yes or no. And Shamcey has exhibited her conviction even the crown was almost at her reach. For some people, they could really never understand why she took the risk of answering that question by what she believes in and not by pleasing the judges but for me I think she did what is best and became indeed a model of what a woman of today should be – a woman who has a voice and who will be willing to take a stand.

I rest my case that she answered with her heart and her answer was in no way connected with Shamcey losing the crown. I do not want to debate about religion and beliefs anymore but what I am always proud of us Filipinos is that we are learning to take the stand even if it would cost us something.

To the Miss Universe – 3rd Runner Up 2011 congratulations and welcome home! πŸ™‚

What can I say? I am just so proud how the media has been revolutionized and though most of the time there are still trashy commercials in our idiot boxes yet there are some commercials which has just the heart and where the theme really touches home. I think some if not most of the people have already seen these videos but I just want to repost these two videos here in my blog to keep the wildfire regarding these two videos which talks about love and family.

True enough, some of us maybe are old enough to play with our parents or even deal with our dad’s corny joke but damn that, think about those sacrifices our parent did when we were young? Would a little insane moment with our parents be impossible for us to give nowadays just because we are older, schooled and with higher education than our parents? Think about it again. UNCONDITIONAL is the word. πŸ™‚

I was tagged in this video I think 2 years ago and even after a few number of times that I have watched this video, I still shed a little tear after watching this video. For what reason? Those small things that I remember about the people I love. The little imperfections that make themο»Ώ perfect for me, yes as the commercial says, BEAUTIFULLY IMPERFECT.

Enjoy the videos! πŸ™‚

Okay, before I graduate I remember that the local band scene in Dumaguete was more of Enchi and other reggae bands around the province and the neighboring islands but I am amazed if I may when a friend of mine tagged me in the following videos which as per checking as a 100% Dumagueteno production. From the music and the type of song, it’s world-class and the MTV was amazingly shot and edited. Given more exposure, this team can go far. Proud to be an adopted Dumagueteno and of course Sillimanian!

I hope this team can make more music that will inspire and not only just to be sikat. Songs that will change not only Dumaguete, our country and maybe soon the world!

All the best for this amazing group! πŸ™‚

This week, I was able to chance upon two wonderful songs which were immediately added to my playlist and where rewind button is the most pushed button in my music player.

The best is just awesome that it makes me want to go home and stay in my hometown. Reminded me that indeed there is no place like home though they might say that things have changed and maybe for the worst yet this city, will always be my city. Love the lyrics too. πŸ™‚

Now this is girl power. Song spoke so much to me this week. Be it someone who just moved on from a dying relationship. Someone who needs just an encouragement to keep on and to continue amidst all life’s challenges. This one is for all us.

And to my friend (you know who you are), you still have a long way to go, we’ll be there to be with you as you start things again and FLY. We love you.

When I though I have read all the news last August 24th on the business column of my favorite daily broadsheet, I was wrong. I almost fell from my seat when I saw the news with headlines that read STEVE JOB RESIGNS FROM APPLE. My heart sank. The man that I can attribute with the strongest brand ever and the company richer than the America is stepping down as the Chief Executive.

INNOVATION. What makes Steve Jobs the man? Again, its INNOVATION. Steve Jobs pushed through the limits, conquered uncharted seas for the sake of innovation. As Jobs has clearly said that “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” And today, after the rigorous inputs and things that he has done for Apple, the company leads in creating the technology to better the life of each people, to connect people. And I can really say that Jobs changed the world. Who would have thought that a man without actual degree would lead this company and bring it to its highest acme in technology and will rule the industry.

FOLLOWERS. Innovators will also have followers and yes they will always be followers because someone thought about it first. But what makes Jobs a different kind of innovator is his passion for his people and for the work itself not just to compete and come out of a product that would sell as he said,

“Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It’s not about money. It’s about the people you have, how you’re led, and how much you get it.”

Steve Job’s persistence has indeed paid off. The products maybe quite expensive from the other sold computer products but when people would think of what they gadget they want to have from tablets, phones and even PCs. It’s always APPLE.

“I’ve always wanted to own and control the primary technology in everything we do.”
— BusinessWeek Online, Oct. 12, 2004

If not for his battle with cancer, Jobs could still helm this amazing company where good ideas and product improvements just spring naturally. I felt the loss when Jobs announced that he is stepping down but he is leaving Apple in the able hands of Tim Cook which I believe is as awesome and as innovative as Jobs. Jobs has created the world that maybe 20 years ago was impossible but now every is just plainly a gadget you can get from a store. Jobs revolutionized the world of technology for us humans too can enjoy. I feel sad yet I believe Jobs has already left the legacy which I am holding right now in the palm of my hand and will I be forever grateful to him. I remind myself that Jobs is the the Chair of the Board and he can still influence the company for greater heights.

Thank you Steve Jobs not only for these amazing gadgets but for setting the example that education is never a hindrance to success and for reminding us that the brain and its power to imagine is never limited but we just have to push our minds to innovate.

It’s the “BER” month already. And for most of us Filipinos in the country and scattered around the globe, it’s the Christmas season already. It seems like yesterday when we welcomed 2011 with a bang and now were almost geared towards the end of the year.

September maybe is a month that always excites me for the things that are about to come for the last quarter of the year. Also makes me save money to prepare for the Christmas shopping that will that sooner for us here in the Philippines.

We look forward to what this month may bring. Be it a challenge. Be it an unfamiliar territory. We look forward for the wonderful month of September.

Have a good day everyone! πŸ™‚
